More than 55 countries have active Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) programs with 170 cities and regions at various stages of readiness. In the United States, several states are forming AAM strategic plans to fully take advantage of the opportunities available with emerging aviation. Regardless of the use case or location, the one integral thing that AAM requires is an integrated airspace where safety and innovation meet.

Understanding this, NUAIR leverages the knowledge and credibility from 10+ years of UAS test site management, with its long-standing and trusted relationships with rule makers and federal departments, as well as cutting edge technology to enable AAM operations in our 240 square miles of commercial BVLOS operational airspace in Central New York, across the United States, and around the globe.

Setting aside new aircraft types, hardware, and software, Advanced Air Mobility at its core introduces a new form of transportation for multiple different industries. But successful mobility requires incorporating three proverbial “legs of the stool”:

  1. Airspace Integration – visibility and authority for airspace 0-50,000 ft. AGL to incorporate all kinds of aviation.
  2. Airside Management – the infrastructure and supporting foundations to make AAM successful and equitable.
  3. Passenger & Cargo Operations – a complete picture of start to finish for the passenger or cargo journey.

The NUAIR Alliance addresses the first “leg” with airspace integration. Bringing a system of systems and innovative technologies together to integrate into a full Airspace Management Function (AMF) which currently provides complete visibility into NUAIR’s 240 square miles of commercial BVLOS operational airspace. This AMF provides the framework necessary for not only BVLOS awareness, but also airspace prioritization, authorizations, and deconfliction.

The second and third “legs” are truly where the federal, state, private, and public collaboration needs to come in. From state-led initiatives with Departments of Transportation to privately-held power companies to nation-wide strategies to individual manufacturers, addressing Airside Management as well as Passenger & Cargo Operations requires the right pairs of feet in the room. With connections across the globe, NUAIR is helping facilitate this collaboration.
