Like many other things in the legacy of aviation, NUAIR’s success comes from a system of systems. A team of industry-leading products and solutions in their own right, the NUAIR Alliance comes together to enable the NUAIR Center of Excellence – headquarters of Advanced Air Mobility in Central New York and influencing the Next generation of aviation around the globe. TruWeather Solutions brings in the low altitude weather prediction sensor network to the Alliance providing certainty to operations in the one thing that we cannot 100% predict – Mother Nature. In this blog, we’ve invited the team to introduce themselves…
Can you explain what TruWeather Solutions does as if we knew nothing about it or the aviation market?
TruWeather Solutions is a leading provider of weather data analytics and innovative weather risk management products with a focus on crewed and uncrewed low-level aviation and ground transportation systems. The current state of weather information lacks the precision and timeliness necessary for the new frontier of air and ground journeys. This is due to one fundamental deficiency: a lack of ground-based and low-altitude atmospheric measurements at spatial and temporal resolutions. TruWeather Solutions is at the forefront of the industry, driving the evolution of high quality low-altitude weather intelligence.
What is the history of TruWeather Solutions and how did the organization get started in this space?
TruWeather Solutions brings 40 years of aviation, logistics, and weather industry experience to this emerging industry. With a foundation of military service, our leadership devised a weather risk management framework tailored for Air Force operations, seamlessly integrating weather considerations into daily mission planning and support. Within a single year – despite maintaining the same level of accuracy – efforts resulted in a remarkable 40 percent reduction in the impact of weather, translating to savings exceeding $200 million for taxpayers. This framework was certified by Air Force analysts. TruWeather is continuing to evolve this framework to serve weather sensitive businesses and industries in the private sector to increase safety and productivity when weather is a potential threat to business operations.
What are three ways that TruWeather Solutions changes the landscape of our industry?
The next generation of mobility must not only prioritize safety, but also strive for efficiency to be scalable, marketable, and economically sustainable. TruWeather’s focus in reducing atmospheric uncertainty with frequent and precise data collection will increase safety, efficiency and reliability in operations.
What makes TruWeather Solutions different from other providers in the market?
At the heart of our business model lies the commitment to reliable science. We specifically target the challenges that the industry encounters as operations scale. Recognizing that relying solely on weather satellites and radar is insufficient to address the intricate weather-related issues affecting low-altitude drone operations, we’ve designed our platform to go beyond these capabilities. While weather satellites and radar contribute to a comprehensive weather ecosystem, they fall short in pinpointing micro-weather challenges such as winds aloft, cloud ceiling heights, visibility, icing in clouds, wind shear, and turbulence that impact low-level aviation. What sets TruWeather’s V360° apart is its scalable plug-and-play feature, seamlessly integrating weather satellite, radar, and innovative sensing solutions. This creates a user-friendly one-stop shop, translating vast amounts of data into straightforward insights for operators, dispatchers, and airspace managers.
What is the biggest takeaway you want people reading this to know about TruWeather Solutions?
TruWeather stands at the forefront of revolutionizing our nation’s strategy for aligning weather data and services across various transportation modes—be it air, land, or marine. Through close collaboration with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and NASA (National Air and Space Administration), we have pioneered advancements in policy, technology, science, and operations. Our focus includes the development of weather sensor infrastructure, leveraging technologies from academia and private businesses, and fostering essential public-private partnerships to actualize shared visions between government and industry.
